1965 Disneyland Trading Cards (Donruss)

The 1965 Disneyland trading cards made their way to the markets in a joint effort between Disneyland and the card company, Donruss, in an effort to promote the 10th anniversary of Disneyland in California. The 1965 Disneyland trading cards seem to attract two different types of collectors; Disneyana as well as collectors of non-sports trading cards (obviously). This is one of my favorite Disney trading card sets.

There are a total of 66 cards in this set, but they come with two variations: Bluebacks and Puzzlebacks. Each pack featured Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, and the faces of Mickey, Donald, and Daisy Duck. The background was yellow and it said “Disneyland” across the middle. Each pack also listed the price on it, which was 5 cents.

Disneyland Bluebacks

The Disneyland bluebacks feature a scene or attraction from Disneyland on the front of the card which is bordered white. The backs have a design with a blue border (hence the name bluebacks) and also include the card’s number, title, copyright info, and a plug to, “Visit Disneyland in ’65:.

Disneyland Puzzlebacks

The 1965 Disneyland puzzlebacks are slightly different in that the picture on the front is smaller, leaving space at the bottom of the card for the number, name, and the plug for visiting. The back is just what you might think you’d find; a puzzlepiece. These puzzlebacks make up a giant puzzle that had a bunch of animated Disney characters.

List of 1965 Disneyland Trading Cards

Disney sometimes has a way of making the title of trading cards quite lengthy. Another example of this is with the 1935 Mickey Mouse trading cards set. Anyways, here’s a complete list of the 1965 Disneyland trading cards, which includes 66 cards.

Value

For the more common puzzleback 1965 Disneyland trading cards, you can expect to pay around $1.00 to $2.00 or about $65 for the entire set in NM-MT to MINT condition. Expect to pay about twice that for the rarer Disneyland Blue Backs.

Graded cards are going to sell for more. A graded GEM MINT puzzleback goes for around $250 each. Don’t be surprised to pay around $400 to $500 for a GEM MINT Blue back. You may find it very difficult to find 1965 Disneyland trading cards, especially the blue backs. But if you’re patient, they’re out there.

Key Cards

These 1965 Disneyland trading cards will sell for a premium, being the key cards of the set:

1 Santa Fe and Disneyland Railroad Trains Take You Through Grand Canyon Diorama
31 Indian Elephants Play in Sacred Wading Pool as Seen by Passengers Aboard Disneyland Jungle Cruise
36 Disneyland’s Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse Towers 80 Feet Above Adventureland
50 The White Rabbit and Mrs. Rabbit Surprise Alice in Wonderland with an Easter Basket
51 Santa Fe and Disneyland Trains Depart from the 1890 Main Street
50 The White Rabbit and Mrs. Rabbit Surprise Alice in Wonderland with an Easter Basket
51 Santa Fe and Disneyland Trains Depart from the 1890 Main Street
66 Tomorrowland Autopia Allows Drivers Some Freeway Fun

One might consider all of the blue-backs as key cards, considering they are so much harder to come by.
