1979 Scanlens Star Trek Trading Cards

Star trek fans all over know the theme, ” Space, the final frontier …” This brave theme of Star Trek rings through with media, movies, television, Star Trek trading cards, and more. The 1979 Scanlens Star Trek trading cards were distributed by Scanlens Confectionary, an Australian based company.

As a sister set to the Topps 1976 Star Trek set, the 1979 Scanlens Star Trek trading cards are numbered in a different order and the photos are placed in different sequences. Also, there are only 72 cards (compared to 88 in the Topps set)

This is a pretty rare set, as the market in Australia wasn’t as big as the market in the United States. In fact, no one seems to have a complete PSA graded set (and if they do, it’s not registered with PSA).

Where to Buy Them?

You can find some of these cards on eBay from time to time. They might also show up here and there on other auctions sites as well. Cards like these also change hands privately. It’s a good idea to get to know the collectibles community you are interested in and ask around. If you need help finding these cards, let me know. Values of the 1979 Scanlens Star Trek Trading Cards

The 1979 Scanlens Star Trek trading cards vary in value, from about $5 to $25. However, if you have high grade specimens that can be sent in for professional grading, they could be worth significantly more. I saw one up for sale recently for a few hundred dollars.
